Quranscreen Reflection

I thoroughly enjoy doing video projects so this was a lot of fun for me to do. This isn’t the type

of video I typically make. I’m usually into making a short film or some sort of sketch, so that was

the only struggle; going outside of my comfort zone and making something I typically wouldn’t in

the first place. I had a lot of fun editing to the rhythm of the song I chose. I ended up being pretty

proud of the final product I ended up with. There was always more I could have done, but some

COVID and personal restrictions stopped me from going really above and beyond. I had to think

outside the box of what was limited to me to create something for the project. Shooting was

pretty difficult because I typically at least have someone else there with me when I’m making a

project so it was a little different. I only had to be in it a limited amount of time anyway so that

kind of struggle faded away and just gave me more freedom than anything.

Video works so well as a communication tool since you’re able to evoke so many more ideas and possibilities through it. Video is a very powerful tool that can show anyone something motion and be able to convey ideas to you in the most literal of visual ideas. Photographs or writing can pretty easily be misinterpreted and send off the wrong message you’re trying to convey. Video however can streamline those ideas and takes aspects of both writing and photography in a sense to create the whole idea and present it in a different fashion that isn’t just face value. You are able to guide a person watching and present ideas in your own way. You have a lot more control over a video and how a person could convey it rather than something stoic like photos or written works. You are able to show off a brand new dimension to whatever you’re working on and open up new possibilities to how one may view something.

It didn’t really affect the way I wanted to tell a story, just more so how I was going to convey it. The self portrait aspect is always a tough one since you rarely think “how do I convey myself”. I personally just took notice of things I do every day now and placed them all within the context of my new daily life within COVID. Typically I write scripts, do homework, play video games, and watch movies or TV shows. I display Blackboard a couple of times to show off I am currently a student at Buffalo State. Even showing the precautions the school is taking during these times for the semester. I scroll through different scripts from over the year and even display some papers I’m working on. As it goes on, I make it more and more intense and more jumpy to new things constantly since I think we can all relate that most days are the same and going by faster and faster until this hopefully lets up. I even had the pretty obvious game over screens placed throughout to give the message as if this may never let up.

Again, this is not something I would typically make, but I managed to put some flair in there for a typical short or sketch I would make. Setting it to music was a lot of fun because I had to ensure I had more than enough footage to work with to constantly be showing new stuff. I almost put more effects in it, but thought that might ruin it and make it too bloated and steer away from what is being shown; which is just my current life and experiences in quarantine and how it’s working on me as a student at Buffalo State. I sadly am not a communication major myself so that part didn’t much apply to me, but I’ve taken plenty of communication courses over the years here to get a general understanding of the issues faced and hard work put into every class. This was great to finally make since I had been wanting to do a video project for a while, but haven’t had much motivation to do so. This was a great time to do and got me back into the swing of working on videos again.

I didn’t have any issues sharing online since I already had a Youtube channel all set up for myself for many years so I just placed it on there no problem.
